Tactical Backpacks: Camouflaging Camouflage

Conducting tactical operations requires a degree of stealth in order to operate in a covert manner, and therefore avoid detection. Traditionally, being able to blend into the surrounding environment during daylight conditions was the key, and this is when visual camouflage using some form of disruptive pattern material was king. However as times have progressed, so has technology; infrared cameras and night vision goggles have made the invisible, visible.
But, with advances in detection technology, traditional 'camouflage' has also evolved and adapted, and Karrimor SF have absorbed that material technology into our tactical backpacks.
Infra-red (IR) cameras detect heat emitted by objects with a temperature above absolute zero. Every object emits IR radiation, and the amount of radiation depends on the temperature of the object and its surface characteristics. The human body emits a considerable amount of IR radiation, which is why IR cameras are so efficient at distinguishing a human form, even in a completely dark room.
IR camouflage - using IR reflective (IRR) material - aims to disrupt visual cues by confusing the IR signature of the target with the IR signature of the surrounding background, in a similar manner to the way traditional camouflage works in normal daylight.
At the forefront of military load carrying equipment design, Karrimor SF have integrated IRR technology into our tactical backpacks by using infra-red reflective material in our camouflage (multicam) backpacks and daypacks, supporting the concealment of operatives and their equipment.
The IRR fabrics that we use in the construction of our packs reflect ambient radiation, mimicking the background signature of the environment which in turn enhances concealment by making it more difficult for IR devices to clearly detect a target, providing a strategic advantage in tactical situations.
IRR camouflage may not be effective against all types of IR sensors or under all environmental conditions, but when IRR camouflage is used in conjunction with other camouflage techniques it can provide a more comprehensive level of concealment.
Karrimor SF daypacks and backpacks constructed using Multicam material, such as the Karrimor SF Predator Patrol 45 tactical backpack, incorporate IRR material. Similarly, accessories such as PLCE and MOLLE constructed using Multicam material are also IRR.
