Outdoor life during a Pandemic

Outdoor Life with Karrimor SF
Outdoor life may look very different right now, but the spirit is still very much alive. With the Coronavirus crisis gripping most of the world, outdoor life for many of us has ground to an almost complete stop. Citizens of many nations around the globe are self-isolating, social distancing or, in some cases, entirely locked down. Right here in the UK the advice from our government is for everyone to "stay at home" to help to slow the spread of the virus and give our emergency services and medics the chance to treat patients properly and with sufficient resources.
Our brand ambassador, Justin Miles, has been 'staying at home' for over a week but despite his travel and work plans having been cancelled he's remaining surprisingly upbeat for a man who is constantly on the move. "It's tough. It's really tough. Like many people, my business has been hit hard - in fact, totally destroyed - and if that's not hard enough to cope with right now my ability to get active outdoors has been stopped too, and that really could have a negative impact on my physical and mental health. So I decided to bring the world to life at home." "A few days ago I was sat drinking coffee early in the morning and contemplating the fact that on that particular day I'd been planning to climb Mount Snowdon in Wales. Then I decided to do it anyway, but without actually travelling across the UK" "I first did a little research; how high is the mountain? I then made a step in the garden out of a couple of building blocks, measured them, did a quick calculation and worked out that I would have to perform 3,617 step-ups on that box to replicate climbing the height of Mount Snowdon. I packed my KarrimorSF Sabre 30 - the perfect daypack for a day in the mountains - with the equipment, food and water that I would have carried with me and then spent the next couple of hours 'stepping up' to the height of the mountain." 'I made a short video about my challenge and I've been encouraging other people to set their own 'at home' #getoutside challenges to maintain positive physical and mental health. So far a guy has stepped up Pen-Y-Fan, a young family is stepping up Mount Snowdon over a the course of the weekend - and even 'camping out' in their living room - another lady has committed to walking up and down her stairs until she's equalled the number of steps on the Eiffel Tower, a guy is completing his first ever 10k run in his back yard and a few schools have been using the idea to encourage their home-learning pupils to stay active and to give a focal point for some learning activities."
Just is also using his time at home to read, learn and practice his outdoor skills from tying knots to fire lighting in his house and garden, and running #resiliencechat sessions every day through his social media channels to help everyone to survive and thrive through this current situation. "It's important that we all work together, a global outdoor community working in unity to preserve the spirit of outdoor life through these tough times and be ready to encourage everyone to #getoutside and explore the healthy, happy outdoor life that we already know and love" Just is always happy to answer questions about KarrimorSF rucksacks and daypacks or his adventurous life in general so if you'd like to know more about Just or his adventures, you can contact him through his @ExplorerJust social media channels or contact us and we'll put you in touch.
