Karrimor SF proud to support Borne's Costa Rica Challenge

Borne Preterm Birth - Karrimor SF
Borne is a wonderful orgnanisation which was created to prevent preterm birth. The Karrimor SF team have known Dean Mumm for some years now, having met him during his time as captain with Exeter Chiefs. Dean & his wife Sarah have suffered the loss of four children to premature birth. When Dean & Sarah returned to Australia after their time in Exeter, they founded Borne-HMRI, an Australian scientific collaboration between Borne and the Hunter Medical Research Institute with the aim to delay preterm labour and stop spontaneous preterm birth.

Costa Rica Coast2Coast

Starting from the Carribean Sea, the team will battle thier way across Costa Rica on foot, bike, kayak and raft. The east to west jungle route is rarely used, even by the locals. They will kayak up the Pacuare river, trek 40km through forests to the heights of 3000m, cycle over 200km past coffee and sugar cane plantations and raft through white-water rapdis before reaching the Pacific Ocean. This is an incredible challenge that will test the limits of their physical and mental endurance, all to prevent babies from being born too soon.
We are very proud & honored to support this amazing challenge by equiping the team with Karrimor SF Sabre 30's and we hope we can assist in some way to help Borne advance their knowledge of pregnancy & Childbirth. "At Borne we are delighted to be involved with Karrimor SF. My experiences in elite sport and in charity have me convinced that the most productive relationships are those based on shared ideals and this is definitely something both organisations have in common. We are both striving to be there at the moment when new ground is broken and to help support people with adventurous and stretching goals. At Borne we are looking to break ground and support excellence in research to design the first new treatment for pre-term birth in over 50 years and we believe that this will positively change the futures for individuals and families who are and will be affected by pre-term birth. 1 in 10 babies in the UK are born premature and this presents as the greatest risk to their survival and development of an ongoing disability. We are on adventure and journey to prevent this. Karrimor SF similar to Borne, uses design to support excellence in the people who wear there packs. Whether they are individuals from special forces, law enforcement or adventurers their kit is always there when it matters.
Karrimor SF has already supported me on my journey to the North Pole in 2018 and the Magni 25 pack I used then has proved to be equally adept at -40 Celsius as it is in my day-to-day life back in Sydney. As I prepare for another fundraising challenge I am pumped to know that I will have a KarrimorSF pack on my back when I mountain bike, Jungle trek and raft my way across Costa Rica in March 2020. The more extreme the adventure the less you have room for excuses and it’s always reassuring to have the support of a organisation who literally has your back." Dean Mumm
